This page is here to give plot holders information on how to improve the appearance of their plots.
Job1 straight paths
The finished width of the path needs to be 500mm wide, the reason for this is that it makes mowing the paths a lot easier. the site also looks a lot better when all paths are the same width.
Finished path should look like photo 1
Equipment required
1 x 500 mm width gauge (500 mm piece of wood)
2 x 300 mm pieces of wood
1 x 20 metre heavy string or rope
1 x Hammer
1 x Border spade
1 x wheel barrow ( to remove excess grass)
Step 1
Attach rope each end to the 300 mm pieces of wood and then hammer 1 piece of wood into the edge of the grass path adjoining your plot.Take the other end of the rope and wooden stake to the other end of your plot pull the rope tight and hammer wooden post into the side of your plot making sure that the rops is tight and is laying along the path. You now have something to make striaght path with.
Photo 2 below shows line in place Photo 3 shows how wide the path has grown in 1 year
Step 2
Dig the border spade into the soil by about 50mm along the string.Do this in stages of about 500 mm. Then use the border spade as a knife and remove excess grass as in photo 3.
Step 3
Once your side of the path is completed speak to the plot holder next to you and between you use the 500 mm measuring stick to mark the edge of his plot and carry out step two again
Once all work is completed move the waste soil and grass to an area the has been previously agreed with the site manager.
